Homepage Analysis

Users form a visual opinion in roughly 50ms

How we utilise homepage space matters. I will measure how you’re using space using a segmentation model and can further consolidate this data with competitor benchmarking.

The homepage segmentation model

I capture your homepage at 1440px wide and however tall, top to bottom, then cut it into the segments a UX Designer or Information Architect would name:

  • Hero. Your opening claim.
  • Explainer. You describing yourself.
  • Promotion. The ask: an offer, a price, a form.
  • Trust. Proof from outside. Testimonials, logos, ratings, accreditations.
  • Routing. Links into your own content. Product grids, case study cards.
  • Editorial. Writing meant to be read not clicked.
  • Navigation, Brand and Footer for the rest.

Each one is measured three ways: its share of the page, how much of it is drawn on rather than empty, and how much of the first screen it takes.

Brand and performance signals

Homepage analysis

Three things make for a great first impression, and all of them land before the first sentence.

  • Speed. Google PageSpeed, plus Largest Contentful Paint, Total Blocking Time and Cumulative Layout Shift, against Google's own published thresholds.
  • Technical. What your page weighs, against the median desktop average.
  • Consistency. Your typefaces and what they cost. Your palette, with each colour's share, including any users can't distinguish.

Add a competitor

A second homepage URL gets measured and benchmarked in the same way. Both sets of scores, both sets of segments, and the gap between them.

How it works

  1. Give me your homepage URL.
  2. I measure and segment it.
  3. The PDF lands in your inbox within 24 hours.

What you get

Facts are hard to argue with. Clarity beats cleverness.

  • What your homepage is actually made of, in proportion.
  • A competitor measured the same way, if you want one.
